EUSA October elections

The EUSA election cycle for October has just begun, with up to 50 roles up for election for all students at the University of Edinburgh.

For Postgraduate students, the roles up for election include Taught and Research school representatives.

Their role entails sitting on committees at the University and working groups.

There is also the role of Campaign Representative up for election.

According to the EUSA website, this role is open to students who are passionate about a variety of issues, such as the climate crisis.

Campaign Representatives work with various student groups, sabbatical officers, and other student representatives.

Carer’s Representatives give a voice to student carers.

They also work with the Vice President of Welfare,  which allows the representatives to work on this particular issue.

Law Council first year reps are being elected, which would allow pre-honours students to get their first experience of student politics at a younger age.

Finally, The National Union of Students delegates are being elected.

Students elected to this role will represent the University at NUS conferences.

Being a delegate allows students to influence policy on education, housing and funding, as well as an opportunity to meet student activists.

Delegates will gain feedback on policies with an opportunity to speak and vote.

Overall, these roles, according to the EUSA website, will give students the opportunity to develop their skills in leadership, and relationship management.

Students who are elected will have introductory training, with assistance from a sabbatical offer and EUSA staff.

There is also an opportunity to receive a Higher Education Achievement Award.

The Student contacted the EUSA sabbatical officers for comment,

“We’re excited to see so many great candidates standing in the October Elections, and wish them all the best in the campaigning period!… A strong student voice is more important than ever this year, and there’s no better way to ensure that the University is listening to us than by giving Elected Representatives a strong mandate.”

Furthermore; “This year we are also trailing an exciting new voter incentive scheme that will directly reward students for engaging in the Elections.”

Voting for the October EUSA elections will open at 10am on the 16th October, and will close at 5pm on the 19th October.

The results will be announced at 6pm on the 20th October, and will be posted online after an in person event.
