There’s so much going on at the Fringe in comedy and in club nights that it can be difficult to fit in everything you want to see and do. But Ivo Graham’s Comedians DJ Battles is an innovative and entertaining twist on both comedy and clubbing, bringing together the best of both worlds and meaning you can enjoy a club night and see your favourite comedians. The concept is simple yet brilliant: duos of comedians go head-to-head in a DJ battle, taking turns to play their favourite tracks and hype up the crowd. The audience then decides the winner based on who delivers the most electrifying set.
Stand up comedian Ivo Graham hosts the nights and plays his own choice of songs during breaks and in between acts. His comedic talents are on full display as he navigates the chaotic energy of the event, blending playful banter with genuine musical enthusiasm. The comedians, ranging from seasoned performers to rising stars, bring their unique styles to the decks, meaning that every night is completely different.
The music selection is as diverse as the comedians themselves, with genres ranging from guilty pleasures to crowd-pleasers, creating an atmosphere that is both nostalgic and energetic. Yes, though, expect to hear several Chappell Roan and Charli XCX hits – the comics obviously know what an audience wants.
The audience is an integral part of the night, as they ultimately decide the winner. This adds to the community and feel-good vibe of the event and is an element I really enjoyed.
Comedians DJ Battles offers a refreshing break from traditional stand-up, merging the worlds of comedy and music into a new style of clubbing. It’s a must-do for anyone looking for a night out that’s as funny as it is lively.
