Halloween costume ideas for 2024.

With halloween just around the corner, the pressure is on to pick the perfect costume. If you are struggling, or want to stand out amongst the countless cats, witches and devils that are guaranteed to appear at every party, then look no further. This costume guide is full of iconic people and moments from the past year. So, ditch your go to outfit and choose from one of these instead!

Sabrina Carpenter:

If we had to pick someone iconic from 2024, Sabrina tops the list. With her bouncy blonde hair and 50’s inspired outfits, the “Espresso” singer is a constant fashion inspiration. Replicate her unique style this halloween by wearing anything reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. Think pastels, babydoll dresses and platform shoes.

The Menendez brothers:

If you haven’t been watching the new Netflix series “Monsters”, what have you been doing? Aside from the gripping case, the 90s “old money” aesthetic has been taking the internet by storm. For an easy and effective costume, grab any polo shirt, chinos or preppy clothing item, just don’t forget to wear their iconic sunglasses!

Nara Smith:

I think we have all fallen in love with Nara Smith this year. From her mouth watering food to her extravagant outfits, the model turned food influencer is nothing short of iconic. Wear your most classy outfit and grab a mixing bowl or spoon to dress as Nara this halloween. Don’t forget to accesorise with bold jewellery!

Wicked:

The 2024 release of “Wicked” is definitely not short of halloween inspiration. Elevate your standard witch costume by adding a long plait and glasses to dress as Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba. Alternatively, channel Ariana Grande’s Glinda and sport a pink dress and crown. This makes the perfect duo costume.

Inside Out 2:

Is your flat in need of a last minute group costume? Look no further than the animated 2024 sequel. With up to 9 different characters to choose from, this is the perfect theme for any sized group. You could replicate each emotion’s outfit or match their colour, from wearing red for “Anger” to green for “Disgust” – the possibilities are endless!

Brat:

Still not over “Brat” summer? Bring the grungy fashion movement inspired by Charli XCX’s album to your halloween party. Charli herself said all you really need is a strappy white tank top and some micro shorts, making this the perfect last minute outfit.

One Day:

Every Edinburgh student is well aware of the Netflix series “One Day”. With scenes set in Edinburgh, it would silly not to replicate either Dexter Mayhew or Emma Morley this halloween. You could imitate Dexter by wearing a loose white shirt, suspenders and signet ring or go for any of Emma’s 90s-era pieces. Bonus points if you make this into a couple’s costume!

Challengers:

We couldn’t forget the iconic tennis filled film “Challengers”. Regardless of your athletic ability, you can replicate the characters looks by wearing any sports clothes you own. Pair a polo shirt with shorts or a tennis skirt and grab a racket to create the perfect look.
