Arthur’s seat helicopter mystery

Last week locals reported low-flying helicopters over Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park. The helicopters deposited white bags of rubble on the hill for construction work being carried out on the footpaths.

Historic Environment Scotland (HES) is responsible for overseeing the management of Arthur’s Seat. HES are currently carrying out restoration work on the Zig Zag Path on the west side of the Seat. The path is now closed to the public, with visitors being directed to alternative routes to the summit.

The High Road that encloses Arthur’s Seat was closed temporarily while the helicopters were moving the rubble. The area containing the bags is closed off to the public.

HES is renovating several paths in the park after accidents have occurred in recent years on footpaths, the most recent in July 2024. For public safety, the Radical Road is also currently closed due to the risk of rockfall.
