The new year is bringing plenty of exciting new additions to Edinburgh– performances at the Edinburgh Playhouse, stylish cocktail lounges in New Town, a trendy hot-pod yoga studio, and an outdoor food market at Granton Promenade. However, there is one thing locals cannot seem to get enough of: restaurant openings. From chippies to Instagram-famous cafes, here are the new foodie spots to look out for in 2025:
- Little Capo
Nestled on the corner of Howe Street, Little Capo is one of Edinburgh’s most exciting new restaurant openings. Since first opening its doors last November, this Italian restaurant has been all the rage. Great for a dinner with friends, or a romantic date, the dimly-lit interior and retro decor will transport you to a cosy Italian ristorante. Loved for its intimate atmosphere, charming hand-written menus, extensive cocktail list, and delicious food, Little Capo may have opened late last year, but is definitely one to check out in 2025.
- Moss
On January 29, this new farm-to-table, completely Scottish restaurant made its debut to the Edinburgh public. Located in Stockbridge, Moss will become a staple for elegant dinners and special occasions. While the founding chef, Henry Dobson, originally imagined Moss as a fine-dining establishment, he decided to make the restaurant more accessible for all kinds of diners. While you’ll definitely still be splashing the cash, a meal here offers upscale dining at an affordable price.
- Barry fish
Barry Fish began as a pop-up in Leith, and the project went on to collaborate with other restaurants in the area. This February, they will be opening their very own restaurant, a first for Scottish chef Barry Bryson. The seafood-focused eatery will look out onto the water, evoking an authentic sense of seaside cuisine. While fish will take center stage on the menu, the restaurant will also offer an array of meat and vegetarian options, making it suitable for all palettes.
- Landy’s
Landy’s is the popular Vittoria Group’s latest venture, a new fish and chip restaurant on the Royal Mile. While it has all the British classics, it offers a more up-scale experience than your typical grab-and-go chippy. Expect to find menu items such as battered pork sausage, haggis neeps and tatties, deep fried pizza, and black pudding. Landy’s is also the perfect option for students on a budget, as all dishes cost under £10.
- Blank Street
Blank Street is undoubtedly the trendiest new cafe in Edinburgh. With branches all over the U.S. and the UK, the popular coffee chain finally came to Edinburgh’s Victoria Street on January 25. Already, the cafe has drawn huge queues of coffee-lovers, all eager to sample the wide range of creative drinks and pastries on offer. If you’re searching for the most Instagram-worthy spot in Edinburgh, this will be your new go-to!
