Marchmont, specifically Marchmont Crescent, has been under sewage construction since September 2022, yet Scottish Water has recently reconfirmed their aim to complete the project by this upcoming spring.
The goal of the project is to “help reduce the risk of flooding to properties in the Marchmont area of Edinburgh by increasing the capacity of the sewer network,” according to the delivery page of Scottish Water.
In an update given in February 2025, they reported that the works at Marchmont Crescent are nearly finished.
The final phase of connecting the new sewer with the existing sewer on Marchmont Road will take place for approximately six weeks beginning on 3 March 2025.
During this period, there will be a two-way traffic light on the junction of Marchmont Crescent and Marchmont Road, as well as barred access to Spottiswoode Road from Marchmont Road.
After this is finished, the project will be completed with the removal of site cabins near Warrender Park Terrace, and all roads will be reopened.
Residents of Marchmont have weighed in on the updated confirmation of project completion, with most being elated about the news.
One resident commented: “As a cyclist, it has affected my daily journey from my flat to school and work.
“When the roads open up again, it will be a lot easier to get around the area and will be nice to have less construction constantly around here.”
Another agreed, adding: “I can’t wait to have Marchmont Crescent open again.
“It’s good that the sewer system will be updated, and I’m happy with the project, but it’ll be odd to have it all be back to normal again after being under construction for so long.” To see more updates about the project and how it may affect you, visit the Marchmont page on Scottish Water’s Website.
