What Your Favourite Edinburgh Coffee Shop Says About You…

Luckily for us, Edinburgh is inundated with a wide array of options to satiate caffeine addictions, get a wonderful sweet treat or simply catch up with a friend. Everyone needs a cheeky trip to a café every once in a while! Where else are we supposed to go to buy our overpriced iced caramel lattes and pretend to do work whilst actually gossiping with our friends? Whatever reason for your coffee shop trip, the choice you make can reveal a lot about you… so, what does your favourite Edinburgh coffee shop say about you?

The Main Library Café: I refuse to genuinely believe this is anyone’s favourite choice of café in Edinburgh. Whilst the coffee is good and affordable and the location is perfect, if you are actually in the Main Library at George Square, it is definitely a rogue choice in any other circumstance. If this truly is your favourite choice, you are deeply uneducated about the options that dominate the Newington area, and I plead with you to branch out and try somewhere new that has a bit more soul to it.

Black Medicine: This coffee shop is arguably the most basic option, and you desperately need to stop trying to romanticise your day and actually just get on with your life. Whilst you love adopting the image of yourself in your head that you are Hermione Granger or Rory Gilmore, you are realistically only fooling yourself.

Lady and the Bear: If this is your favourite coffee shop in Edinburgh, you have great taste. You are most likely a connoisseur for different teas and enjoy trying a new one with every visit. Alternatively, you are a stereotypical English Literature student who gains enjoyment from the literary references across the menu and takes care to explain them to any victims with you. Altogether, a very good choice.

Press Coffee: You are the most organised person in your friend group, and you love this option because it is so close to campus without necessarily being on campus. It feels like a slight escape from the academic sphere of George Square, but you can be back on campus in a heartbeat for a tutorial or lecture if you need to be. Similar to Black Medicine, you probably also romanticise sitting in the big windows and people watching, but the bright yellow walls of Press Coffee renders this act less pretentious than the earthy atmosphere in Black Medicine.

Kilimanjaro Coffee: This is the ultimate choice of favourite coffee shop. You are most likely a relatively nosey person if you sit at the front of the coffee shop, which provides the perfect place to try and spot your campus celebs out and about. Who can blame you? However, if you sit at the back in one of the cosy booths, you are either an incredibly motivated student dedicated to completing your uni work, or the best friend needed for a deep chat to help your friends sort out their lives.
