As a lover of pen and paper who still has not got used to the rise of technology (and the post-pandemic ‘new normal’), I understand the willingness not to let go of reading on paper. But I do not plan on doing it, and I hope neither do you. However, if you are reading this, I can assume you are somewhat interested in the question of electronic ink.
Long have I been against using a Kindle, until I realised it actually facilitated my quest to read. It made me want to pull out my Kindle rather than my phone when waiting for a doctor’s appointment or on a ride back home. Not to say you could not pull out a book in the same way, but it is quite heavier, and takes up more space. Furthermore, if you are someone who enjoys reading multiple books at the same time, according to the mood you are in, you might want to consider getting a Kindle. That way, you could have as many books as you want in (quite literally) the palm of your hand.
A highly specific situation that I always find myself in is finding the perfect in-bed position for reading. If this is somewhat familiar to you, I am compelled to tell you this is not a problem for Kindle users. There are even some Kindle cases which enable it to stand on its own. These seemingly “stupid” things have determined whether I keep fighting to find a good reading position or just switch to watching something on my phone because it’s easier anyway.
To conclude with my analysis, I would highly suggest to anyone who wants to get back into their reading habits to try giving Kindles a chance. As reluctant as you may be, who knows if your Kindle might become your next most beloved item? Plus, they are so fun to decorate!
