Have you heard that Lit Soc is back? That’s right, the Edinburgh University Literature Society is officially back in business this semester, after disbanding at the end of last year.
The society was readopted through EUSA and given a whole new life, complete with a new committee who have lots of fabulous literary events planned.
The society will kick off its rebrand with a glittering spectacle of a The Great Gatsby themed launch party at the Argyle Cellar Bar, where members will have a chance to experience all the razzle and dazzle of one of Jay Gatsby’s parties from the classic novel.
Later in the semester the committee have teased collaborative social events, which will aim to bring students together in the love of reading. This will include hosting engaging and informal literary discussions, about any and every type of book in a fun and casual setting.
The committee of Lit Soc 2.0 have pledged that they intend to keep the society as a relaxed and low-commitment place for students of all degree types to enjoy their favourite parts of literature and meet other like-minded people. What differentiates Lit Soc from other literary based societies currently running at the university like the Book Club Society or PublishEd is their promise of not being project or commitment based and prioritising the social and community-based aspects of enjoying literature above all.
“We want Lit Soc to be a relaxed and sociable society where people can share their love of literature without the pressures of assigned reading and high commitments” says the society’s Co-President, Eva.
“We’re putting the lit back into literature” added second Co-President, Evie.
