Editors’ Cut: Last Minute Film & TV Halloween Costumes

Iga:

If Halloween isn’t the time to put your niche film and television references on display, then I don’t know what is. My own favourite film-themed costume was two years ago when I went as Pearl (from Pearl), although getting my hair into Mia Goth’s iconic pigtail updo was a big team effort from me and my flatmates. A last-minute costume might need some less elaborate elements. One of my best friends is Helly R from Severance this year, opting for a mysterious business-casual chic Halloween, a great idea I wish I had thought of myself — and if you’re in a couple, a Helly and Mark duo costume is just the right amount of nerdy for any crowd!

Florencia:

A last minute Halloween costume has got to be made up of things you already have in your wardrobe. I will be going as Dana Scully from the X-Files for one of my costumes this year as I truly only need a long coat and a bob so I’m sorted. It is also weather appropriate for whatever is currently going on with this rain. I am also always up for a little DIY moment — last year I handmade my flatmate an incredible pair of dragon wings from cardboard that we had left over from our move. So, cut up some boxes, buy cheap paint, and make your costumes this year!

Hannah:

Photographer Szilveszter Makó has been making rounds with Hollywood’s biggest stars in the last couple of years. But before he collaborated with the likes of Jenna Ortega and Elle Fanning, he was most recognised for his photo of Willem Dafoe wearing a house shaped head-piece. Find some cardboard scraps and recreate the iconic outfit for Halloween. Even better, if you’re looking for a matching costume, Makó executed the same concept with Cate Blanchett. And what would cinema be without Willem Dafoe and Cate Blanchett? Stay sustainable, eccentric and creative this year!
