The script scribble: A short form play script

The Script Scribble offers writers the chance to write a short sketch-style script. This week writers were given the prompt of completing a piece of creative writing about the widespread accommodation issues which every Edinburgh resident is familiar with. This pair of writers, centring the piece around the city, found humour in bands, flatmates and lots of allergy drama…

INT. THE STROKES CONCERT

JULIAN CASABLANCA

Thundercat… thanks for opening. Just came from a traumatic day at my Edinburgh flat.

THUNDERCAT

Shit—what happened man.

CASABLANCA

look at this rash on my
eyelid.

THUNDERCAT

Ahh! CASABLANCA

Guess how I got it?
(beat)

My flatmate got an illegal dog, that I am deadly allergic to, it pees everywhere, I’m breaking out in hives from stroking it once!

THUNDERCAT

Damn.

CASABLANCA

It’s clear now I definitely
prefer the Voidz to the
Strokes!

THUNDERCAT

Does your landlord know
about this living situation?

CASABLANCA

No. Reality awaits.

THUNDERCAT

Well, I live on
Leith Walk if you ever want
a place to crash.

CASABLANCA

Thanks, ‘cause
sometimes it feels like my
room is on fire.

THUNDERCAT

You need to get that
allergy looked at.
