Premier League: January transfer window round-up

Manchester City hope to plug the Rodri-sized hole in their midfield with deadline-day capture Nico Gonzalez, signed from Porto for £49.8m. Gonzalez, who graduated from Barcelona’s prized La Masia academy, joins Egypt international forward Omar Marmoush and defenders Vitor Reis and Abdoqir Khusanov in signing for Pep Guardiola’s side, in a total outlay of £172m.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa sold coveted striker Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr, but have brought in a clutch of stars: Dortmund’s Donyell Malen, PSG’s Marco Asensio, Chelsea’s Axel Disasi, and – most eye-catchingly of all – Marcus Rashford, who leaves Manchester United on loan with an option to buy. Diego Carlos leaves for Fenerbahce, Emi Buendia has been loaned to Bayer Leverkusen, and Jaden Philogene is now at Ipswich; right-back Andres Garcia joins from Spanish club Levante.

United have signed Patrick Dorgu, the Lecce wing-back, for £25m. The Dane is Ruben Amorim’s second signing as manager: the first was Arsenal U19 centre-back Ayden Heaven. Flop winger Antony has been shipped out to Real Betis on loan.

Tottenham Hotspur have, in addition to the permanent signing of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, completed loans for Austrian centre-back Kevin Danso, with an obligation to buy, and for Bayern Munich’s impressive young forward Mathys Tel, who could later join permanently for £45.5m.

Out-of-favour Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell leaves on loan to Crystal Palace — who send veteran Jeffrey Schlupp to Celtic — while promising winger Romain Esse has already arrived from Millwall.

Across London, West Ham have borrowed Brighton striker Evan Ferguson. The Seagulls have signed Derby County defender Eiran Cashin and Paraguayan midfielder Diego Gomez: young Greek winger Stefanos Tzimas joins at the end of the season, while Jakub Moder has departed for Feyenoord. Attacker Julian Enciso has been loaned to Ipswich Town, who also bring in Philogene, Atlanta defender Ben Godfrey, and West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer.

Newcastle United have loaned left-sided defender Lloyd Kelly to Juventus, with an obligation to buy. Brentford have brought in Fiorentina full-back Michael Kayode on an initial loan, while letting Mads Roerslev leave for Wolfsburg. Struggling Wolves have brought in centre-backs Emmanuel Agbadou and Nasser Djiga, and midfielder Marshall Munetsi, for a combined £42.2m.

On deadline day, ex-Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz joined Everton on loan, but despite their perilous league positions, neither the Saints nor Leicester made any late moves, having already brought in Albert Gronbaek and Woyo Coulibaly respectively.
