Little Mix alumni Jade Thirlwall (now stylised as JADE) has been on the rampage since embarking on her post-girl group solo career. Fulfilling the Harry Styles role as “the one to watch out for”, JADE’s debut single as a soloist was hotly anticipated – and fair to say, “Angel of My Dreams” resoundingly delivered. Kitschy, dramatic, and fun, the single marked her out as a key figure in the pursuit of weird pop music – think Girls Aloud circa 2005.
Now, JADE returns with “FUFN (Fuck You For Now)”, a distinctly Capital FM offering – not necessarily a bad thing. “FUFN” is a kind of late-stage Little Mix banger and really quite reminiscent of 2022’s Confetti album – big and ballsy with a dusting of the great Jade Thirlwall vocals of yesteryear. It’s primarily vocally that it differs from her recent in-between singles “IT Girl” and “Fantasy” and their stylised talk-singing, with JADE beautifully belting “we’ve done this shit before” during the song’s crescendo. She sure has, but it’s still great.
