Vape King, a vape shop located on the historic high street in Linlithgow, West Lothian, has come under fire after it installed illuminated signs and steel door roller shutters.
These installations failed to comply with local conservation laws.
Harry Cartmill, Chair of the Committee Councillor, said: “The sign made Linlithgow High Street look like a PoundShop Las Vegas.”
In its official guidelines, the West Lothian Council emphasised the need to preserve the visual quality of the historic town in order to maintain commercial success.
It is specifically critical of “dominant large plastic fascia” which may cover traditional architectural features.
Following the criticism Mr Ramin Rostami, the owner of Vape King, applied for retrospective planning permission for both the steel shutters and the illuminated sign.
However, the planning permission was rejected.
Following the rejection of the proposal, councillor Pauline Clark said: “I don’t know how long it is going to take for people to realise they need to make sure they stick to the rules”.
“There’s a colour palette. They should be sticking to it. The colours are too bright and the writing is too big,” she added.
